The Artist
Ed French is a former Disney artist, who has brought his enormous talent to depict extraordinary moments in American history, through the eyes of Zebulon Pike.
The Setting
St. Anthony’s Falls was a formable obstacle for Pike and his men. It took them four days from September 26 until the 29th, 1805 to portage around these falls. Today the falls have been replaced on the west side of Minneapolis with locks on the Mississippi River.
Pike had just purchased land from the Dakota Sioux [the Pike Purchase] on Sept. 21, 1805 for the future site of Fort Snelling. The land purchased became Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.
