Completed around January 27, 2020, this painting depicts Pike presenting two bear cubs to President Jefferson in front of the original White House. (The British later destroyed this building.) .

The Artist
Ed French is a former Disney artist, who has brought his enormous talent to depict extraordinary moments in American history, through the eyes of Zebulon Pike.
The Setting
On the White House lawn Pike completed one of his assignments- to return with samples of wildlife found in the Southwest.
Pike is shown giving President Jefferson two grizzly bear cubs he had purchased from an Indian during his Southwest expedition. 1806-07.
The bears were gifted to Charles Peale’s museum/ zoo. The bears ‘graced’ what later became the national zoo.
