You choose - Which is the Pike Christmas Site? - Salida CO

Zebulon Montgomery Pike, Jr. and friends will send you to several possible sites, a docent will argufy for their site, and you will vote for the site you feel Pike and his men spent Christmas Eve and Christmas 12/24&25/1806 [at the reception.]

Pike 25th December, Thursday - "It being stormy weather and having meat to dry; I concluded to lie by this day. Here I must take the liberty of observing that in this situation, the hardships and privations we underwent, were on this day brought more fully to our mind. ...We spent the day as agreeably as could be expected from men in our situation."

Hike Where Pike Hiked in South Park CO - Fairplay CO

George Meyer invites you to Santa Maria Ranch to hike parts of Pike's route and examine 5 Pike encampment areas [December 13 to 17, 1806], including Pike's northernmost Colorado position on his ranch. 

He will also convince you of the authenticity of the sites. 

Pike 16th December, Tuesday - "Marched up the river [Middle Fork-South Platte] about two miles and killed a buffalo. ... dispatched parties different courses; the doctor and myself ascending high enough [Reinecker Ridge] to enable me to lay down the course of the river into the mountains."

You, if you wish can climb Reinecker Ridge to discern Pike's advantageous "lay of the land." It's remarkable.

Hike or Horseback Medano & Mosca Passes -
Wet Mtn. Valley - Westcliffe / Silver Cliff CO

You will choose a horse or your feet to climb over Medano Pass, visit with the interpreters at Great Sand Dunes National Park, and climb over Mosca Pass where we believe John C. Frémont and Kit Carson crossed the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.
